World War 2 Campaigns

Historical World War 2 campaigns

The Beta is based on the Allied landing in Normandy and D-Day events. We have a dedicated team researching the historical data of each battle regarding maps and topography, units, organization and equipment.

Our ultimate goal is to cover the whole war but these are the battles we aim to have ready during Beta testing:

We will add more game content over time, including the Battle of Tali-Ihantala (Finns vs. Soviet Union). Later on we will link these scenarios together, to form longer campaigns.

Persistent 24/7 and tick-based

The game is persistent, meaning it will run 24/7, until the scenario time runs out (e.g. Tali-Ihantala lasting from 25.6 to 9.7). While you are away from the game, your units will still react to events and act on their own e.g. fire against spotted enemy units or try to escape battle area if things get too rough.

There will be penalties for night-time combat action (as we do not want to encourage people staying online 24/7 :)

Hours of War is tick-based. The game is not RTS (real time strategy) nor turn based.
The length of one tick can range from minutes to hours or longer: the scenario designer will decide this. One tick may represent any amount of in-game time.

For example, a real life military operation that took 2 weeks, may be played quite a lot faster, at the real time pace or even slower. More details on Wikipedia regarding tick-based games.

Massively Multiplayer

All game scenarios and campaigns are multiplayer, ranging from 40 player positions to hundreds of player positions. Later on we will have thousands of players battling on certain campaigns.

A browser with Flash 10 is all you need. No other downloads or installations required. Runs on PC, MAC and Linux.

War strategy

Hours of War is a war strategy game, which contains many levels both strategic and more tactical. In the biggest future campaigns, you may play as a High Commander, e.g. commanding all Allied or Axis troops in Normandy, whose individual units are played by other human players, or down to the Battalion Commander level. Battalion Commander typically commands 3-5 companies directly.

Commanding others

In the game, if you are playing any other position than Battalion commander (lowest commanding position, and the most tactic one), you will most probably have direct human player subordinates. You will use the in-game commanding tools like mail, drawing tools, and chat, to explain the objectives to other players.

Building a military career

You will build a military career in HoW. You accumulate prestige points and medals from battles by capturing or occupying a victory location, or destroying enemies.

In historical scenarios, the whole objective is to beat the historic results. That applies both to you as a player and your side as a whole. You will be rewarded based on personal objectives as well as the overall performance of your side.
